If Windows shows a warning
We have not code signed QuirkIDE yet. Until we do, Windows and your browser may warn you about a file from an unknown publisher. These are the exact clicks.
In the Edge browser, while it downloads
- If the download says the file isn't commonly downloaded, select the three dots (...) next to it.
- Select Keep.
- If Edge asks you to make sure you trust the file, select Show more, then Keep anyway.
Chrome and Firefox show a similar message with a Keep button.
Opening the file
- Open the file you downloaded.
- If a blue box says Windows protected your PC, select More info.
- Check that the app name matches the QuirkIDE file you downloaded, then select Run anyway.
- Follow the setup steps.
Once we sign QuirkIDE, Windows will show our name as the publisher and these steps go away. Download QuirkIDE from quirkide.com and nowhere else.
Check the file
Open PowerShell and run this, with the path to the file you downloaded:
Get-FileHash "$HOME\Downloads\the-file-you-downloaded.exe"
The Hash it prints should match the SHA-256 checksum at the top of this page.
After you install
Open QuirkIDE. The first time, Quirki offers the five-minute gauge, which reads your level and picks your first project. The docs cover the rest of your first hour.
